This Privacy Policy explains how Book Scanner - Merge PDF ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, processes, and protects your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

We believe in data minimization. We only collect the information necessary to provide you with the document scanning and PDF merging functionalities:

  • Account & Profile Information: If you sign up using our synchronization features (powered by Supabase), we collect your name, email address, password, and avatar profile picture.
  • Guest User Data: If you choose to use the app as a guest, your processed files and scans are kept strictly on your local device.
  • Scanned Document Content: All scanner images and OCR text recognition logic are processed entirely on-device (via local NDK and Google ML Kit). We do not upload your raw scan images or documents to our servers unless you explicitly sync them using our storage integration.

2. How Data is Used

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • To operate, maintain, and provide the scanning and PDF merging features of the app.
  • To synchronize your scans and history across devices if you are signed in.
  • To display personalized or non-personalized advertisements (via Google Play Services Ads).
  • To respond to your support inquiries and improve user experience.

3. Device Permissions & Usage

To enable scanning and local document generation, our application requests the following device permissions:

  • Camera: Used to capture images of physical documents for scanning, processing, and cropping.
  • Storage & Photos: Used to save generated PDF files to your device's external storage, select existing images or PDF documents from your gallery to merge, or import files for scanning.
  • QR & Barcode Scanner: Uses the camera to scan QR codes and barcode types locally via Google ML Kit.
  • Notifications: Used to inform you about PDF merging status and notifications.

4. Data Security

We employ administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information. Since all document processing is executed locally, the risk of data exposure is minimized. Secure transmissions to Supabase storage are encrypted in transit via SSL/TLS protocol.

5. Third-Party Services

The application integrates with the following third-party service providers who may collect data according to their own privacy policies:

  • Supabase: Provides backend authentication, postgrest database, and storage services.
  • Google Play Services & Google AdMob: Serves advertisements and provides diagnostic statistics.
  • Google ML Kit: Executes on-device OCR and barcode recognition. No image data is sent to external servers.

6. User Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under the GDPR, CCPA, or other regional regulations:

  • Access & Correction: You can edit your profile information within the app's profile screen.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and associated synchronized data directly through the Profile settings.
  • Local Data Control: You can clear your scan history and generated PDFs at any time through the history views.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

We do not use browser cookies. We use local secure preference management systems (SharedPreferences) on your device to store your login sessions, user settings (language and theme preferences), and history records locally.
